Laser Hair Removal

The laser is the answer to all your problems with unwanted hair. Many techniques have been used, but the laser is a less painful, more effective, and least damaging method of hair removal. Please do not use any other hair removal techniques except shaving prior to your laser hair removal.

At Dr. Al Rustom's Medical & Day Care Surgery Centre three laser systems are available for hair removal. These lasers will be used according to the type of the skin or the type of the hair. In some cases different lasers will be used on different parts of the body. For some patients we will be using the Light sheer XC model allowing us to treat different skin types more safely. Suntan will now be less of a hindrance to hair removal. The laser beam tracks down the hair follicle to the bulb to eradicate the follicle. Not all follicles are susceptible at the same time so that 4-8 treatments are usually required for permanent hair reduction. The Sapphire chill tip on our laser is designed to cool and protect your skin and to focus the laser's energy on the hair follicle. During your first consultation if there is any question about your safety a test spot will be done to determine the best level of laser energy to use. For some patients, mainly with thin hair, the epilation will be done with IPL/HR laser. This light is capable of penetrating several millimetres beneath the skin surface.

There it is absorbed by melanin, the substance that gives hair its colour, and is converted into heat. As a result, the cell structures that surround the hair and enable it to grow are damaged. The skin is hardly affected at all.The laser beam treats several hair simultaneously. This means that hair can be removed quickly even from quite large areas such as the back, shoulders or legs. With the laser, hair removal is safe, gentle, fast and almost completely painless.

Why the Long Pulse Nd Yag laser?
The Long Pulse Nd Yag laser was selected after many months of trailing different laser because of the very low discomfort levels and the high level of safety. This laser is very safe to use on dark skin and even sun tanned skin, which many other lasers are not.

How is the treatment carried out?
The hair is shaved off and the area to be treated is cleaned and briefly cooled, and the laser treatment then follows. The time needed depends on the skin area to be treated. For relatively small areas, eg facial hair, it only takes a few minutes. Afterwards, the skin is cooled again, and you can continue with your normal daily activities straight away. Depending on your skin type, you may also be recommended to use a skin care cream. The treated areas have to be protected from bright sunlight for several weeks (eg. with sun cream with protection factor 30) to prevent pigment changes.

Don't settle for out-of-date solutions.
The old fashioned ways of removing hair- shaving, tweezing, creams, waxing- are time consuming and short lasting,. And although electrolysis can permanently remove hair, it is an extremely slow and painful method.

But you don't have to settle for out-of-date solutions. Now you can obtain long-lasting results with laser hair removal treatments.

Unlike electrolysis, which requires a needle to be inserted into each hair follicle, this laser system can be used to quickly treat large areas of the body . It is safe and gentle method for removing unwanted hair without skin irritation, discoloration or inflammation associated with other laser or hair removal methods.
